World War II is over, and there's no more rations, everyone is buying new, big cars, and things are looking up. One day, Evie's step-father, a vet, proposes a family vacation for her and her mother, to Florida, without overbearing Grandma Glad. Evie is excited about the adventure, and getting out of the beginning of school! Once Evie and her parents arrive in Florida, the vacation fails to live up to Evie's expectations, until Joe shows up, one of her father's war buddies.
